Now here's another great idea from those smart guys in the Premier League. This time it's Bolton's chairman (or something like that) who claims it'll be great if both Glasgow Rangers and Celtic join the Premiership. To complete this "amazing" concept, he also suggests that the Premier League will be divided into two 18-clubs league: The Premier League 1 and The Premier League 2.
This is an amazing idea. Not because it's so great or wise, because it is not. It's amazing because it's the first step to vanquish the English football as we know it. For many years, while the top-flight clubs fought for supremacy, dozens of enthusiastic supporters followed their Brentford/Blackpool/Rochdale and so on, trying to climb up the ladder.
Through this time new teams, such as FC United and AFC Wimbledon had to start from the lowest tier and work their way up.
Now, both these principles will be gone. First, for the first time, a team will be invited to join the top flight of English football, without going all the way, from the bottom tier. The reason for that is those teams have loads of money and might generate more income to the PL.
Second, rumors tell that the plan is to make the new 2-tiered Premiership a closed one, meaning no relegation from the Premier League 2. Not to mention that no promotion will take place either.
Well... what can I tell you, lads. People has gone mad. There were some bad ideas in the past (39th match, for instance), but that's the first time (I think) that such an astonishing idea is brought up publicly. All we can hope that someone will be able to stop this from happening. If not - this is the end of English football as we know it.
What a shame.
